Our theoretical and methodological point of departure is that discourse projects and shapes ideology. The aim of this study is an analysis of social science textbooks published in Catalonia. Textbooks allow for a certain perspective over reality as they have an institutional nature. Furthermore, the reader they address is usually one of no education who thus has no strategies to question the information given. In view of this social practice regarding the textbook, it is necessary to point out that we have become interested in limiting and describing some of the linguistic discursive resources that reflect an ideology. Such analysis may serve as a bridge to develop the critical linguistic awareness of the student and therefore his critical reading competence.
