Abstract

This paper examines from a sociosemiotic perspective and a critical approach to discourse studies, the role of some evaluation resources and textual organization in the construction of written opinion about the feminist movement. In particular, the goal is to understand the representations constructed in the discourse of two relevant political actors about the Chilean feminist movement of 2018. The analysis is based on a corpus constituted of two opinion pieces, one by José Antonio Kast and the other by Mónica Rincón, public figures associated with different ideological positions regarding the subject at hand. The theoretical model adopted for the analysis is Systemic Functional Linguistics, particularly the analytical tools of APPRAISAL (Martin and White, 2005) and PERIODICITY (Martin and Rose, 2007).
