The present study examines whether metadiscursive resources contribute to the rational, credible and affective appeals (the logos, ethos and pathos of Aristotle's Rhetoric) found in editorials about Osama bin Laden’s death. The corpus for this study comprises 16 editorials from major Spanish newspapers. Hyland’s model of metadiscourse is employed as the framework for the present study.
