From the queen mother of the nation to an old hag: An analysis of the inaugural discourses of elected female presidents in Latin America

Abstract

This is a study from the perspective of the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of the inaugural discourses of the Latin American elected female Presidents. These discourses are a philosophical and political platform that, based on the expectations and aspirations of the electorate, constitutes a driving force behind the government, but it also serves as criteria to assess its implementation and effectiveness. From the perspective of gender studies, these discourses are a process for the construction of the identity of the female leader.
