Abstract

In this article I intend to analyze the configuration of two types of motherhood present in the novel Distancia de rescate (2014) [Fever dream, 2017] by the argentine writer Samanta Schweblin from an eco-feminist reading on both institutional-productivist and subversive practices of care in a contemporary world. characterized by wild biocapitalism (Heffes 2021): agrotoxic motherhood, on the one hand, and community motherhood, on the other. If in the first one we can read a polarization of the maternal figures that demonstrate their individual failure in a patriarchal system associated with the unconditional "logic of rescue", the second allows us to glimpse a literary and ecofeminist commitment to prefigure another possible symbolic order from the narrative margins. Thus, I postulate that it is possible to recognize other critical modes of maternal reinvention within the narrative itself that, far from being functional to the extractivist system, raises the community care of a "sisal thread" that interconnects practices and knowledge within an ecosystem in constant threat.
