Abstract

The writer and traveler Margo Glantz (Mexico City, 1930) lives the pandemic actively on her Twitter account (@Margo_Glantz). She, as narrator and scholar, demonstrates by means of her publications how the traffic light system decreed by the Morena government evolves in the frame of her implicit manifest against climate change and other actions that violate Mexico and the planet, undertaken from the end of 2019 to the last months of 2021. During these two years the notion of οἰκο (in the sense of Irmintraut Richarz) is acknowledged together with the definition of the ‘new normal’ by her mobile device. She achieves this through ongoing fragmentary agglomerations in line with the baroque ethos (Bolívar Echeverría) that recovers the pre-Columbian and colonial world that has been the theme in many of her essays. In this paper, starting from the οἰκο (as an act of inhabiting a lost space both virtually and physically) and following with the ethos (recognition and denounce of an environmental problem), I put forward a definition of the ‘new normal’ that Glantz has been sharing in the social network from ecocritical perspectives. After introducing twitterature about studies on the pandemic, such as those by Slavoj Zizek, Jorge Carrión or Adela Cortina, the tweets and retweets by @Margo_Glantz will be analyzed, paying special attention to the former. In the analysis, three types of scenes will be defined for the pandemic: caring for the city based on their intra- and extra-domestic experiences in the capital of Mexico; the defense of animals and natural spaces; a new definition of women and human relationships in the face of fear. This will allow us to foresee a relevant tale about the pandemic.ntal balance, and find ethical principles that keep individuals away from the dehumanization of big cities.
