Call for papers for Paper Landscapes: Ecocritical Themes and Debates in Ibero-American Cultural Magazines (19th-20th)
On the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of The Ecocriticism Reader: Landmarks in Literary Ecology (1996), a foundational book within environmental studies where ecocriticism would be referenced for the first time, this special issue of Pangeas seeks to focus on other “places” or “landmarks” in ecocritical literature that have received less critical attention: the visual and semantic spatiality provided by cultural magazines. In this regard, the issue aims to delve into both the real and fictional representations of natural spaces in cultural periodicals and to explore the ecological debates featured within them. The primary linguistic-cultural focus will be Spain and Hispanic America, although proposals with a comparative approach will also be considered. In this vein, contributions that critically examine the potential differences between the ecocritical perspectives and narratives of Hispanic contexts and those of “world literature” (Leff, 2006; Heffes, 2012; French and Heffes, 2021) are especially welcome.
