Abstract

The present research work has the purpose of analyzing the last poetic work of Jorge Riechmann, En el fondo del valle ha muerto Jorge Riechmann (2022), intending to demonstrate how the existing dialogue between his essay work and his poetic work influences the structure of the poetry book, the images of the poems and the “poetic self”, starting from the hypothesis that, in effect, the poetic voice of Jorge Riechmann, by placing himself between poetry and essay, is repleted with images, words, and notions that refer to the ecosocial crisis. In this sense, the notion of “cross-border poems” by Óscar Carpintero is borrowed. The analysis and reading of the book of poems are based on a particular analysis perspective, the ecocriticism, and one of the possible methodological approaches within it, the “dialogical orientation” of Mijaíl Bajtín, which allows transferring to the textual analysis the main line of thought of the poet, that is the “barefoot ecosocialism”, as well as the “systemic conception of the text” of the Soviet semiologist Iuri Lotman. Among the results obtained, we have the confirmation that the book of poems is crossed by a cross-border voice, creating an aesthetic that dialogues with his essay work, and singing a song of celebration of life to face the horror of ecocide through the structure, the images, and the poetic voice.
