Selection of the Guest Editor
The appointment of a Guest Editor for each issue of UOUsj follows an open, transparent, and collaborative process among the professors participating in the UNIVERSITY of Universities (UOU) international teaching network (https://uou.ua.es).
Every professor within the network is invited to propose a research theme to be developed through an international student workshop lasting three weeks. These workshops form the foundation of the journal’s pedagogical and research model, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, experimentation, and collaborative inquiry across architecture schools worldwide.
Following the workshop, the appointed Guest Editor compiles and refines the academic and design results—often extended and reinterpreted in subsequent semesters—into a document known as an ATLAS. The ATLAS serves as both a record and a synthesis of the research conducted, embodying the visual, conceptual, and methodological framework of the issue.
The primary objective of each issue is to advance the academic investigation of the selected theme. Accordingly, the ATLAS is published as an integral component of the issue, accompanied by a selection of peer-reviewed articles received through an open Call for Papers, as well as invited contributions from scholars and practitioners with recognized expertise in the field.
Through this process, UOUsj ensures that each issue reflects a balance between academic rigor and pedagogical innovation, reinforcing the journal’s commitment to advancing architectural knowledge through collaborative, experimental, and socially engaged research.
